-The Benefits of Organic Wood Mulch-
You can help your plants by placing wood mulch around the base in the late fall or early winter. A layer of mulch 5 to 10cm (2 to 4 inches) deep will act like a blanket, giving your tree’s roots some extra protection for the winter. Be sure to keep the mulch from touching the tree truck as it can decompose the wood. An organic wood mulch can help to retain water in the soil and protect the roots from extreme temperatures. Placing mulch at the base of your tree has other year round benefits. Mechanical damage from lawnmowers and whipper snippers will be avoided. Nutrients will be put back into the soil as the mulch decomposes. Weeds and other plants such as grass will not compete with the tree for food and water. There are many advantages in having mulch under your tree. Solid Tree Care sells and installs organic wood mulch year round.
